This Service Tool can make service adjustments and Reset procedures with the Ink Absorber Counter. To reset waste ink absorber counters you have to use Service Tool V3900 under Windows XP or under other Windows OS in the compatibility mode:
1. Order and DOWNLOAD Service Tool V3900 for Canon iP, MG series
2. Unzip downloaded file by WinZip.
3. Set the printer in Service Mode:
- power OFF the printer by Power button. Dont disconnect power cable
- connect the printer by USB cable to the PC.
- press and hold Resume button (red triangle in the red circle) and press Power button
- hold both buttons until power on indicator will light then release Resume button (dont release Power button) and press Resume button 5 times and for MG series - 6 times!
- release all buttons - the printer will blink few times with green light and will then light green constantly. You have put the printer in Service Mode now and you can now run the Service Tool. (If the printer is still blinking by green - you have some other errors in printer and you have to fix them first, because the Service Tool will not work if the printer is not put in service mode - green light is constant)
4. Run the Service Tool V3900.exe program.
5. Select the connected USB port number from USB PORT
6. In the Ink Absorber Counter section of the Service Tool, select MAIN from the Absorber pull-down menu.
7. From the Counter Value (%) pull-down menu, select the value (in 10% increments) which is the closest to the actual counter value confirmed before replacement of the logic board, and click SET.
Print EEPROM information to confirm that the value is properly set to the EEPROM.

Mary-Ann Prinsloo | 2022-07-19 12:17:16 | Good day.
I have to clean my printer head EVERY hour. Then it prints fine. Until I leave it for an hour. So this leads to waste pad full and I have to purchase a key every time. Is there another way to go around this problem please? I cannot afford to buy a key every week.

You have to make 2 things
- clean parking station first - then inks will not dry on printhead;
- use high quality inks. | | Ramiz Huseynov | 2010-11-29 16:59:15 | | ORLANDO MORAELS | 2019-02-27 22:39:58 | Thank you So Much! I really appreciate your reset utility! | | Dylan Vandagrifft | 2024-02-08 22:11:41 | At first I thought I was going to have to spend a lot of money and have to spend a lot of time fixing my issue. It was actually the complete opposite, it was very cheap/affordable and super easy to do. They give you all the steps and explain everything very clearly. do not waste your time with dealing with Epson. This was definitely the best decision to make. Will be back when I need to reset my printer again! Thank you 2manuals.com!!!!! To bad there isnt an AMAZING rating!! | | Len Foster | 2011-11-27 16:38:24 | Brilliant stuff! Have tried everything over the last few days to reset my R265, and finally found your site! Brought a key, bit of a problem with my email account, tried another one, got the key, reset the R265 AFTER washing out the inkpads, now everything is working as it should. Many thanks. | | R. Zeiss | 2021-04-24 03:18:01 | It worked on my MX892 !!! Thank you. It reset the Ink Absorber Counter, and my printer was alive again. | | ann weston | 2022-09-01 07:15:35 | I bought one reset key and it hasn't even been a month yet and my printer is already telling me that the ink pad needs service. All of these good reviews that I have read on here is the reason i took a chance and purchased a reset key. I have not been able to use my printer at all. I am highly pissed off that not even a month after purchasing the one reset key and my printer is back at it again. I want a refund or to be able to try another reset code. this is a bunch of B.S.

Waste counters doesn't have any relation to how much time did user used the printer. Waste counters increase when printhead cleaning is performed. One printhead cleaning takes about 3-4% of waste counter. So if user make 25-30 printhead cleanings - the waste ink counters will reach 100% and overflow. Doesn't depend on time you will make this cleanings - in 1 month or in 1 year or in 1 day or in 3 years. Usually when printer is new and using Epson original inks - -there will be no need to make printhead cleanings. After Epson inks finish - users often buy third party inks - they have not so good quality as Epson and may clog printhead more often. So after Epson inks finish - users make printhead cleanings more often - as a result - after 20-30 printhead cleanings - counters overflow. So - try to make printhead cleanings less often.
Only ONE thing what does Reset Key - it resets waste ink pads counters to ZERO. Doesn't matter counters will be reset by yourself using Reset key ($9.99) or by Epson Service Center engineer ($50) - the result will be the same - counters will become 0%
Conclusion: use high quality inks!
